John Bailey to Judge 2009 KODAK Film School Competition

ROCHESTER, September 9, 2009 - Renowned cinematographer John Bailey, ASC will judge the regional entries of the 2009 KODAK Film School Competition. Now in its 10th year, the competition is designed to recognize the creativity and skills exhibited by student cinematographers in the collaborative process of visual storytelling. It is open to students and recent film school graduates from Asia Pacific, Latin America, United States and Canada, and the European region.

Bailey earned his master's at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. His first narrative feature credit came in 1978 for Boulevard Nights. He has subsequently compiled over 70 credits, including Ordinary People, American Gigolo, The Big Chill, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Accidental Tourist, In The Line of Fire, Forever Mine, As Good As It Gets, The Producers, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and the upcoming films When In Rome and Ramona and Beezus.

Bailey takes an active interest in fostering the arts and in educating the next generation, and often serves on film festival juries and leads lighting workshops at film schools. He has also authored a number of influential articles about technology and the impact of motion pictures on contemporary culture.

Regional winners will be announced by November 1. The grand prize includes a trip to the 2010 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France for each of the regional winning filmmakers. The festival is one of the most pre-eminent worldwide short film showcases. Kodak screens the winning entries at the festival and invites the filmmakers to participate in a program of industry activities.
