Kodak On Campus Event in Montreal
Kodak held an On Campus Day event in October, 2007 at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal. In addition to Concordia students, the other participants came from Université de Montréal (U de M) and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
Kodak On Campus Days are designed to offer in-depth discussions, hands-on film workshops and the latest product demonstrations with industry professionals and Kodak technical representatives. Participants gain insights on all aspects of filmmaking from preproduction through postproduction and archiving. The purpose of these events is to help educators and students cut through the hype, and learn about the advantages of originating on film and Kodak's products and services available for today's hybrid workflow environments.
The day's activities included many informational and instructional components for students and faculty. Presentations were given on evolving and changing workflow choices available today, as well as how to achieve excellence in quality image capture and how to choose film stocks.
According to Kodak's Gaston Bernier from Kodak Canada, everyone liked the hands-on experience at the Stop By Shoot Film mini-workshops. Kodak's Randy Tack, and René Daigle and Marcus Vonholzendorff, both Concordia faculty members, conducted the sessions.
Sébastien Laffoux from ARRI joined Kodak's On Campus Day and showed a 16 mm/Super 16 film demo. He also brought one of the new ARRI 416 Super 16 cameras. The ARRI 416 is a compact, lightweight camera with a crystal clear viewfinder and a capacity for operating at speeds ranging from one to 75 frames per second.
"We heard a lot of positive feedback throughout the day and at the roundtable discussions with faculty," says Bernier. "Students from different schools were able to make new contacts, compare notes and find that they all share the same joys, difficulties and aspirations. It was a day for some great camaraderie."
