New challenges, a new face yet some things remain unchanged

By: Alexander Lantuh
Worldwide Director of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs

Alexander Lantuh
Alexander Lantuh who has succeeded Donna Timmons

Five years ago, Donna Timmons had the pleasure of introducing herself to InCamera readers. Recently Donna accepted a new position overseeing the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) program for another Kodak Business Unit (Health Imaging). Now it's my turn for introductions. I'm Alexander Lantuh, and I am looking forward to this new opportunity.

I have been working on health, safety and environmental issues for Kodak for 26 years. Most recently, I provided HSE support for two smaller Kodak Business Units: Global Manufacturing Services and Display and Components. Prior to that, I worked in Capture Flow Manufacturing, where I helped oversee HSE issues in support of the manufacturing of motion picture print film and products. My new position coincides with an alignment of Entertainment Imaging with our Film and Photofinishing Systems HSE staffs. The new structure will help us to more effectively leverage our resources.

As we look at the scope of our health, safety and environmental program, the segment that is most important to our customers has to do with product stewardship. We use a forward-looking approach when introducing new products. During new product development, a formal review of the lifecycle of the product is conducted to ensure both existing and anticipated health, safety and environmental regulations are met. For example, we are designing our equipment products for energy efficiency in advance of regulations requiring this feature. During our HSE product lifecycle assessment, we also look beyond compliance to ensure our products have minimum impact on the environment, as well as responsible product end of life plans. This approach is one reason that Kodak earned a place in the recent Global 100 list of the most sustainable companies in the world.

Another important issue I'll be tackling is to monitor the everchanging regulatory landscape. It's critical that Kodak help our filmmaker and motion picture laboratory clients comply with product-related HSE regulations specific to the countries they operate in, e.g. United States, European Union, India, China, etc.

Yet despite the many new challenges that I'll be facing in my new job, one thing will remain the same. My main responsibility is to support you, the Kodak customer. As Donna did before me, my pledge to you is to help you be more efficient, productive, environmentally responsible, and better able to realize your professional and artistic goals.
