Shedding New Light on Darkroom Illumination

Electroluminescent Panels
<<Previous | Thumbnails | Next>>

Finally, Hunt suggests electroluminescent panels for use in guide lights, floor lights, aisle and exit lights, etc. These lights use an alternating current to directly excite a phosphor, emitting a low level of diffuse, broad-band illumination. Advantages cited include low initial cost, long life, rugged construction, low power usage, and cool operation.

Disadvantages are the need for high voltage (restricting applications in wet areas), the difficulty in controlling the diffuse nature of the light emitted, and the broad spectrum emitted (usually requiring additional filtration).
