Shedding New Light on Darkroom Illumination
The third goal is to IMPROVE QUALITY by minimizing exposure of the unprocessed film to ANY light, no matter how spectrally "ideal". General illumination of the room should be a "last resort", and if used, should be as dim and spectrally optimum as possible. Unprocessed film should be shielded from undue or prolonged exposure to general illumination by leaving it in its protective packaging, or covering it in some way.
