Kodak Named Official Technology Sponsor of Tribeca Film Festival

NEW YORK, April 25 – Eastman Kodak Company has been named an official Industry Sponsor of the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, which runs here from April 23 – May 4. As Technology Sponsor, Kodak is providing a variety of educational segments and product demonstrations, as well as 20,000 feet of camera negative film for the festival’s selected filmmaker winner.

“The designation of Technology Sponsor by the Tribeca Film Festival is testament to Kodak’s innovation and the advanced imaging science represented in all its film, hybrid and digital products,” says Michael Morelli, vice president and general manager of Kodak’s motion picture business in North and South America. “Film continues to hold a unique space in the motion picture workflow, remaining the medium of choice, because its artistic and archival qualities differentiate it from all other image capture technologies. Based upon our customers' expectations for the very highest quality images — and for flexibility and ease of use — Kodak remains firmly committed to camera negative films within the entertainment market.”

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2001 by Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff, and Robert De Niro following the attacks on the World Trade Center to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan through a celebration of film, music and culture. The Festival’s mission focuses on assisting filmmakers to reach the broadest possible audience, enabling the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promoting New York City as a major filmmaking center.

“Kodak has been a key partner of the Festival since its inception,” says Paola Freccero, co-executive director of the Tribeca Film Festival. “This organization enables the international film community — as well as the general public — to experience the true power of film. With its imaging expertise and commitment to the industry, Kodak is best positioned to represent the technology aspects of filmmaking throughout our festival.”

Kodak will be hosting several customer events at the Festival, where it will be showcasing the new KODAK VISION3 color negative film products. KODAK VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 5219/7219, available since last November, represents a new emulsion platform incorporating technical breakthroughs that deliver greater efficiencies and expand creative options for filmmakers. There is already a robust demand for the new film, with numerous productions — both major TV and feature film projects — from around the globe utilizing the stock.

“The Tribeca Film Festival is a very important industry event,” adds Morelli. “It draws a huge number of filmmakers from all over the world to this city every year, which gives Kodak a great opportunity to listen to our customers and discuss ways to continue to respond to their filmmaking needs for the future. We’re also very excited this year to give special recognition to film as a vital, elegant and technologically-advanced part of today’s evolving workflow.”
