The story of Super 8 is a long and passionate one. From its roots as the home movie medium to its use as a viable alternative in professional filmmaking, this small gauge format boasts a distinctive look as a capture medium.

Today, Kodak is making our fine-grained KODAK VISION3 50D Color Negative Film 7203 available in the Super 8 format.

We are pleased to offer the finest grain film technology in the small gauge format. Now filmmakers can take advantage of this stock’s features – which include extended highlight latitude, cleaner film-to-digital transfers, and improved color consistency over the entire exposure range. These features provide users with the ability to shoot challenging high-contrast exteriors, and follow the action into bright highlight scenes without loss of image discrimination.

How is this achieved? It comes down to smaller crystals. The advanced film technology incorporated into the emulsion makes it possible for the silver halide crystals to process light more efficiently, allowing us to build the film with smaller sensors. When eventually magnified on the large screen or display device, the captured image provides unmatched resolution and noise performance.

We have 100-plus years of imaging science at our fingertips, which fuels our ability to deliver this emulsion with improved extreme exposure performance by extending the dynamic range through increased overexposure latitude and reduced signal to noise performance in underexposures. This low-speed, daylight-balanced film records greater detail in the shadows and highlights, making it a unique choice for creating looks and carrying the images through post and beyond.

In addition, the proven archival capability of film will ensure the images you capture on this stock will be preserved for generations without the need for migration to allow for future use of your content.

At Kodak, we are committed to offering storytellers creative options. Check out our portfolio of Super 8 color film options, or our TRI-X black-and-white reversal. And let the flexibility for storytelling inspire your creative path!
