It is time for Plus Camerimage, The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, which takes place in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from November 26 through December 3!

Each year, cinematographers, directors, producers and students from around the world come to Camerimage to celebrate the compelling visual images being created by today’s filmmakers. With a full line up of competition screenings, retrospectives and individual honors, workshops, seminars and special events, much attention and discussion will be focused on the makers of the images this week.

The 19th annual edition of Plus Camerimage is behind us. The International Festival of the Art of Cinematography, as it is officially known, is a wonderful and warm gathering of filmmakers, supporters and aficionados of the art and craft of visual storytelling. This year’s confab was held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, the second year this charming city has hosted the event. Hundreds of screenings, seminars, press conferences and parties were on the agenda, but perhaps the most important aspect of the fest is the human interactions that happen naturally along the way. Kodak has been a proud sponsor of the festival since its inception.

The highlight of the week was Kodak Day, which featured our presentation in the main theater at the Opera Nova. We used this important platform to announce our new KODAK VISION3 50D Color Negative Film 5203. This new stock brings the latest breakthroughs in emulsion science – along with extended latitude – to a low speed, fine-grained and sharpest daylight stock. We are committed to providing filmmakers with the widest possible array of options. With approximately 75% of the movies in the main competition originated on film, it’s clear that filmmakers still demand the highest-resolution image capture medium as a creative tool. And film’s archival superiority means that their creations will live on.

For 20 years now, the talented artists who create unforgettable images have descended upon Poland for the annual Plus Camerimage film festival — the only international event dedicated to celebrating the art of cinematography. This year’s gathering takes place November 24 through December 1, and once again Kodak will be actively involved in the revelries.

With a full line up of screenings, retrospectives, individual honors, workshops, and special events, much attention and discussion will be focused on the makers of the images this week. The 20th edition of the Plus Camerimage International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography is in the books, bringing a week of bliss for cinema lovers to an end until next year. More than 250 movies were screened. Awards were presented in eight different competitions. An estimated 1,000 film students attended, representing film schools from across the globe. And hundreds of professional cinematographers held forth on panels, presented their work, served on juries and basked in the glow of heartfelt appreciation.

Vadim Yusov, best known as the cinematographer of the early films of Andrei Tarkovsky, was honored with the Camerimage Lifetime Achievement honor. Yusov, visiting from his native Russia, was passionately engaged on a number of panels, and clearly moved by the extended standing ovation he received from the gala audience. At one panel, Yusov noted the global visual language that cinematographers use to reach across cultures.
