The Oscars® in all four acting categories this year were given to actors whose performances were captured on Kodak motion picture film. And an overwhelming majority (16 of 20) of the nominated actors were in movies shot on motion picture film technology. Well done Daniel, Jennifer, Anne and Christoph!
"We take great pride in our rich history with the Academy Awards®, and this year is no exception,” says Andrew Evenski, president and general manager of Kodak’s Entertainment and Commercial Films Group. “You can listen to all the hype, but the truth is that motion picture film continues to be the gold standard, and last night was certainly proof of that. Filmmakers want creative options. We are as committed as ever to providing them with a choice for telling stories. We are currently making billions of feet of film and, who knows, maybe next year’s best winner is already being shot on Kodak film.”
The month of February means we’re deep into awards season – and I’m very proud to say that the most-recognized films used Kodak products to bring their creative visions to the screen, including, among others:
For the 2013 Academy Awards ®, a total of 12 titles shot their nominated movies on Kodak Film, including:
Director-writer David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook has been delighting audiences and critics since winning the audience award at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival. It’ turned out to be a precursor for what was to come as the movie has gone on to be one of the most celebrated films this awards season. The movie has garnered recognition from the Golden Globes, BAFTA, PGA, WGA, SAG, and eight Academy Award® nominations.
Silver Linings Playbook was photographed on 35mm, 2-perf by Masanobu Takayanagi and he primarily used KODAK VISION3 Color Negative Film 5219 and 5213. The cinematographer and Russell decided early on to give the actors “360-degrees’ for their performances, making many of the camera movements spontaneous. Their game plan proved to be the right one, as Silver Linings Playbook is the first film in over 30 years to have Oscar® nominations in all four acting categories.
What’s it like to attend two of the premier independent film festivals of the year? It’s truly exciting! As the Kodak regional account manager for studio & independent feature films / film schools, I get to meet new talent, and be one of the first to see a film that may go on to be a box office hit – and possibly win an Oscar®. From the moment I pull into Park City, I am happy to see fellow filmmakers, watch screenings, talk production, and soak up the creative energy.
