Path Lighting

Path lighting is analogous to the lighting at an airport. It is impractical to illuminate the entire airfield, so individual lights are used to outline the runways, taxiways, and various obstructions. These point light sources are easily seen from a distance. Other planes, vehicles, and moving obstructions have flashing lights to call attention to their presence. These point light sources clearly show the pilot the layout of the airport, and anything that could be a hazard.
